Translating Improvisation Music Workshop
Directed by Paul Stapleton
With Guest Artists: Simon Rose, Steve Davis & Phil Smyth
14 February 2014
2-6pm,
Sonic Lab
Sonic Arts Research Centre

The workshop included musicians from a variety of backgrounds, and focused on how musical improvisation is possible: how musicians make seemingly psychic decisions in improvised performances? Different approaches to group improvisation were explored (free, semi-structured, game-based). Focus was also placed on how audiences and performers make value judgements about the success of different performances.

This event was made possible by support from the Institute for Collaborative Research in the Humanities,
Sonic Arts Research Centre and the School of Law at Queen’s University Belfast.
